Two children, aged eight and 10, lost their lives, and 17 others were injured in a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis, according to police reports. The incident occurred during morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School, with the following details emerging.
Authorities state that the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman from suburban Minneapolis by law enforcement sources at CBS, was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol. The attacker reportedly fired through the church windows and subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police Chief Brian O'Hara described the event as a "deliberate act of violence against children and worshippers." Among the injured, 14 are children, with two currently in critical condition, police added.
During an emotional news conference, Mayor Jacob Frey expressed his grief, stating, "Don't say this is about thoughts and prayers - these kids were literally praying."
In response, President Donald Trump has ordered that US flags at the White House and all public buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset "as a mark of respect for the victims."
